To ensure your Healthcare Organisation can view its patients’ My Health Records, your organisation needs to register to participate in Australia’s My Health Record system.
Once your organisation is registered, Individual Healthcare Providers and other relevant employees can be authorised to access the My Health Record system on the organisation’s behalf.
Before you start the registration process, it is important that you understand the steps involved and the key concepts relevant to participating in the My Health Record system.

This training material will introduce key principles which will underpin your use of the My Health Record system, and familiarise you with its features and functions.
Following completion on an introductory module, there are specific learning modules available for healthcare providers in a range of healthcare sectors/settings.
The training includes simulations to support learning on how to view and upload information to the My Health Record system via some common clinical information systems, as well as the My Health Record provider portal which is available to view My Health Records of patients for those healthcare providers who do not store clinical information about their patients electronically.
This training is hosted on an external website.
A training environment is available for use by organisations wishing to develop training for clinicians on digital health and in particular the My Health Record system, as built within GP software. This environment is of particular interest to Primary Health Networks (PHNs), but available to any organisation that needs to train users.
The training environment allows digital health trainers to create and demonstrate certain clinical simulations – for example, a scenario involving the uploading of a Shared Health Summary, using simulated clinical data for a fictitious patient, to a simulation of the My Health Record system, using any of the supported software packages.
*Please note, the training is hosted on an external website and will direct you off the My Health Record website
The My Health Record Provider Portal allows you to search on and view individual digital health records through your web browser. To access the Provider Portal you must first register and obtain the appropriate credentials.
If you are an existing user of the My Health Record system you can login to the Provider Portal here.
If you are using a conformant clinical information system and you have obtained your digital credentials you and your staff can access the My Health Record system through your software. You can find more information on conformant systems.
From May 2016 the Practice Incentives Program (PIP) eHealth Incentive includes a new eligibility requirement.
The PIP eHealth Incentive aims to encourage general practices to keep up to date with the latest developments in digital health and adopt new digital health technology as it becomes available. It aims to help practices improve administration processes and patient care.
Assisting individuals to register (Assisted Registration)
Assisted Registration is a way for Healthcare Organisations to help individuals register for a My Health Record.
If a Healthcare Organisation chooses to provide this voluntary service to individuals, it does so by submitting an individual’s details to the My Health Record System Operator using compatible software. In doing so the organisation asserts that it has checked the individual’s identity and obtained their consent to being registered and having their health information uploaded to their My Health Record. If successful, the individual will be registered almost immediately and the organisation will be able to upload clinical information about the individual to their My Health Record straight away.
