Getting Started

This document is a start-up guide for the my child’s eHealth record app for Apple iPhones and iPads. The requirement to run this app on an Apple smartphone or and tablet is iOS 7, 8 or 9.

Pre-requisites for using the my child’s eHealth record app

Before you can use the free my child’s eHealth record app you must be an Authorised Representative or Full Access Nominated Representative, and register your child or children (who are under the age of 14 years) for a personally controlled electronic health (eHealth) record. You can register for an eHealth record by visiting the eHealth website.

To access your child’s eHealth record via the my child’s eHealth record app, you will also need to register for a myGov account. Your myGov account enables you to access and link to Australian Government online services, including yours and your child’s eHealth record, from one central place.

You can register for a myGov account when you register for an eHealth record by visiting the myGov website. You will be given a username and asked to setup a password. You will also choose a number of secret questions and provide answers that will be used to verify your identity if required.

If you already have a myGov account, you will be able to use your existing username and password and give the answer to one of your secret questions to access the my child’s eHealth record app.

Install the my child’s eHealth record app

To install the free my child’s eHealth record app go to the eHealth website to download the app onto your device, or:

Step 1

Go to the Apple App Store and follow the instructions.

Step 2

Search for My Child’s eHealth Record.

Step 3

Find and select Icon of the my child's eHealth record app..

Step 4

Select Get, then Install and then enter your Apple ID password.

The my child’s eHealth record app will automatically install.

Accessing the my child’s eHealth record for the first time

Once you have installed the my child’s eHealth record app on your device, you will need to set up access to your child’s eHealth record.

Step 1

Select Icon of the my child's eHealth record app. from your mobile device app screen

Step 2

Click on Terms & Conditions to view them.

Step 3

Accept Terms & Conditions and click Continue.

Step 4

Click OK and the app will send you to MyGov for authentication.

Step 5

Sign in
  • select the Username field and enter your myGov username

  • select the Password field and enter your myGov password

  • select the Sign in button
If you enter an incorrect Username or Password, you will be asked to re-enter the correct username and password.

If you do not have a myGov Username and Password, select Create Account. You will be redirected to the myGov website where you can register.

If you have forgotten your password, select Forgotten password? You will be redirected to the myGov website where you can follow the prompts to retrieve your password.

If you have forgotten your username, select Forgotten username? You will be redirected to the myGov website where you can follow the prompts to retrieve your username.

Once you have signed in, you will be directed to the Secret Question screen.

Step 6

Answer your secret question.
The Secret Question screen will ask you one of the secret questions that you nominated during the myGov registration process
  • answer this question to complete the verification of your identity
  • select Next
If you cannot correctly answer any of your secret questions, your identity cannot be verified. You will need to sign in to the myGov website and reset your secret questions and answers.

Once you have correctly answered your Secret Question you will be directed to the Permission Required screen.

Step 7

To allow my child's eHealth record app to access the Personally Controlled eHealth Record System select Allow Access.

Once you have given permission to access the eHealth record system you will be directed to the Set your PIN screen.

Step 8

Choose your PIN

The Set your PIN screen allows you to set a 4 digit personal identification number (PIN) which you will use each time you want to access the my child’s eHealth record in the future.
  • Type in a 4 digit PIN
  • Confirm your 4 digit PIN
  • Select Proceed to submit the PIN
If the confirmation PIN does not match the first PIN that you entered, you will be asked to re-enter your PIN.

Note: you must remember your PIN and keep it safe.

Once you have set your PIN, you will be directed to the Select State screen.

Step 9

Select your state
The Select State screen allows you to select the state or territory in which you live. The selected state or territory will be used throughout the my child’s eHealth record app to present you with the information most relevant to where you live.

When you choose a location you will be directed to either:
  • My Children’s eHealth screen (if you are linked to more than one child); or
  • My Child’s eHealth screen.

Signing into the my child’s eHealth record

Once you have set up access to the my child’s eHealth record app, you can use your PIN each time you want to access your child’s eHealth record.

If you enter an incorrect PIN three times you will be returned to the myGov Sign In screen to re-enter your myGov credentials and set a new PIN.

If you have forgotten your PIN, select Reset PIN / Switch User. You will be returned to the myGov Sign In screen to enter your myGov credentials and set a new PIN.
