My Health Record for Northern Queensland and Nepean Blue Mountains areas

From mid-June 2016 we will create a My Health Record for all people living in these areas. Information about the trials is also available in six other languages.

Map of Northern Queensland, Mackay, Townsville, Cairns, The Hiterland, Cape York and the Torres Strait which are all part of the trial locations
Map of Nepean Blue mountains in New South Wales including Hawkesbury and Penrith which are all part of the trial locations

I live in a trial area, what happens next?

If you live in the Nepean Blue Mountains or Northern Queensland you will have got a letter from us a while ago about getting a My Health Record automatically created for you.

We are now automatically creating your record from information we can get about you from Medicare. One million new records are being created and will be ready in a few weeks.

Remind me, why are you doing this?

You live in an area where we are trialling new approaches to increasing participation and usage of My Health Record system.

As more and more people and their doctors use My Health Record, Australia’s health system will be better connected with faster, safer, efficient care.

If the trials go well, the Government may consider automatically creating a My Health Record for every Australian.

When can I see my record?

You will be able to see your My Health Record from 15 June.

How can I find my record?

After 15 June, you will be able to find yours at myhealthrecord.gov.au

What can I do with it?

From 15 June, you will be able to set up your My Health Record through myGov. You will be able to choose what Medicare and other information is included in your record, and if you want, you can limit who can see it.

When can my doctor use it?

From 15 July, your authorised doctor and other healthcare providers connected to the system will be able to see your My Health Record, unless you have set access controls.

What if I don’t want the record that was automatically created for me?

If you live in the Nepean Blue Mountains or Northern Queensland, and you don’t want to keep the My Health Record that we're creating for you, you can cancel it any time after 15 June.

You can do this:

  • online at myhealthrecord.gov.au
  • by calling our Help line on 1800 723 471
  • by visiting a Medicare Service Centre
To cancel your record, you will need your Medicare card.
